Rala Choi’s photography unfolds like a quiet reverie: an analogue gaze that resists the digital tide. His work explores the fragile architecture of memory, the intimacy of human connection, and the quiet poetry of everyday life. Through his lens, time slows down, inviting us to dwell in moments that feel both distant and deeply familiar. Choi’s photographs are imbued with painterly softness, where natural light, vivid color, and carefully composed scenes evoke a dreamlike atmosphere. His use of analogue film is not merely nostalgic, but a deliberate choice that aligns with his search for authenticity and emotional truth. Themes of solitude, longing, and emotional resonance emerge through his subtle manipulation of light and texture, often recalling the aesthetics of classical painting. His creative process starts with observation, contemplation and sketching, evolving into meticulously staged scenes that retain a sense of spontaneity and vulnerability, showing as a result personal reflections of universal emotional experiences.

Hansol Choi, known professionally as Rala Choi, was born in South Korea and currently lives and works in Seoul. His journey into photography began during his military service in 2006, eventually leading him to pursue a more personal and expressive body of work. After a period of working on commercial projects, he transitioned to fine art photography with the support of fellow artists and musicians. Choi has held two sold-out solo exhibitions in Seoul and has shown his work internationally. In 2022, he received both the Photography Grand Prix and the Prix du Public at the 37th International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories in Hyères, France. His photographs are now part of several private collections, and his recognition continues to grow within the global art scene.
