About

Lives and works in Ovada, Italy

Mirco Marchelli’s practice centers on compositionally rhythmic and materially rich paintings and assemblages, often built from humble, found objects. Working with wax, clay, cement, and wood, he draws from the legacy of Italian Arte Povera to transform remnants of the everyday, fragments of furniture, books, boxes, utensils, into evocative, vestigial forms. These works are not nostalgic, but alive with tactility and intuition, evoking memory through material. Marchelli treats his studio as a laboratory of improvisation, where each piece is approached like a musical composition, balancing rigor and spontaneity, structure and freedom. Mirco, is a quiet man, a man who understands that art and life require time, something that we can see in the slow evolution of his work. From his beginnings until today, Mirco follows a straight and personal style that only emphasizes the quality of his work through the years, the experience and the conviction that his taste has been a winning bet.

Originally trained as a musician, Marchelli played trumpet in Paolo Conte’s orchestra and taught music in his hometown of Ovada until the early 1990s, when he shifted his focus to the visual arts. This musical sensibility remains foundational to his process: rhythm, silence, and harmony are compositional tools as much as line or color. Since 2017, he has incorporated ceramic into his vocabulary, opening a new chapter in his exploration of volume and texture. Marchelli has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions, including at Alzueta Gallery (Barcelona), Hilde Vandaele Gallery (Watou), Museo Archeologico (Acqui Terme), and Adam and Ollman (Oregon, US). His work has also been featured at major international art fairs such as The Armory Show (New York), Artefiera (Bologna), Art Paris (Paris), and Estampa Art Fair (Madrid).
