About

Lives and works in Barcelona, Spain

Manolo Ballesteros’ practice explores the expressive potential of geometric abstraction through a language that is both intuitive and rigorously composed. His paintings emerge from subtle brushstrokes that give shape to rounded, organic forms, gradually overtaking the canvas in compositions that are both serene and dynamic. Working with flat planes of color, ranging from bold, saturated hues to soft pastel tones, Ballesteros achieves a visual purity that is immediately recognizable. Despite their formal clarity, his works are not bound to any specific narrative; instead, they evoke a meditative space where color, form, and material presence speak for themselves. At the heart of Ballesteros’ practice is an intimate dialogue with materials, paper, steel, enamel, and pigment, chosen for their capacity to reveal the physical and symbolic weight of form.

Born in Barcelona in 1965, Manolo Ballesteros has developed a solid international career with exhibitions across Spain, France, Belgium, and Germany. His work has been shown in institutions such as Fundació Vila Casas (Barcelona), and in numerous solo exhibitions at Alzueta Gallery (Barcelona and Casavells), Galerie Pierre Hallet (Brussels), and Galerie Scheffel (Frankfurt), among others. With a practice rooted in both formal exploration and poetic resonance, Ballesteros articulates a visual language that expands the boundaries of painting, one that reflects a deep commitment to presence, materiality, and human sensibility.
