About

Lives and works in Madrid, Spain

In her artistic practice, Maru Quiñonero builds a deeply personal visual narrative through abstraction, where color serves as an essential language and emotional vehicle. Her work, defined by bold shapes and sensitive geometry, stems from a deliberate pursuit of beauty as both a beginning and an end, as cause and effect. For years, paper has been the primary medium of her work, but in her more recent production, canvas has taken on a more prominent role. In her pieces, Quiñonero explores the interaction between acrylic and pencil across vast color surfaces, where each layer functions as an emotional stratum that organizes reality and its landscapes. Quiñonero understands painting as an extension of her inner life. Her work is both an exercise in introspection and an aesthetic affirmation. As she herself states: “I am not one without the other. They go hand in hand. They coexist and cohabitate inevitably.” Her work insists—without repeating itself—on a poetics of color and form, where each stroke is an affirmation of identity.

Based in Madrid, Maru Quiñonero holds a degree in Art History and a Master’s in Fashion and Beauty Communication from Universidad Carlos III. Her most notable exhibitions include LA EXTRANJERA, her first institutional show at Palacio Almudí (Murcia) and Aurora, at the Voltz Clarke Gallery (New York). She has also participated in international shows with YIRI ARTS (Taipei), Kitsuné Gallery (New York), Galerie Le Marais (Paris) and Alzueta Gallery (Barcelona and Madrid). Her work has been featured in leading art fairs such as ARCO Madrid, Art Paris, Zona Maco, and Art Taipei.
