About

Lives and works in Tarragona, Spain.

Alejo Palacios’ work is an exploration of material, texture, and the poetic possibilities of simplicity. Beginning with handmade paper and acrylics, Palacios creates compositions that balance austerity with richness, producing works that are simultaneously minimal and profoundly expressive. His practice revolves around the interaction of organic forms with tactile surfaces, generating through paint the illusion of wood, metal, or fabric. Each piece reflects a careful, almost meditative engagement with materials, guided by the principle of speaking through “pure and simple ideas.” Pattern, repetition, transparency, and layering play a central role, revealing the beauty inherent in process and craft. Palacios approaches every creation as a dialogue with his medium, allowing chance and imperfection to shape the work while maintaining a deliberate compositional harmony. In doing so, he channels centuries-old artisanal traditions, celebrating the tactile, human, and historical qualities of material as much as the finished form itself.

Alejo Palacios was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina but later moved to Spain, where he has established his studio in the serene landscape of Tarragona. Trained professionally as an Industrial Designer, Palacios transitioned to painting while maintaining a profound respect for craftsmanship, informed by early experiences in his family’s artistic and artisanal environment. His works have been exhibited internationally, including solo shows at Alzueta Gallery (Barcelona and Madrid) and Gallery B·R (Tetbury). Palacios’ paintings, often executed on handmade papers sourced from global cooperatives and crafted with meticulous detail, are a reflection of his ongoing engagement with texture, form, and the poetry of everyday materials. He has said that he enjoys working like a farmer, and perhaps for this reason his work is nourished by colors and materials deeply connected to the earth.
