Alzueta Gallery is pleased to introduce Lord Sandwich and the Bikini Roads, a solo presentation by artist Mark Bohle (Germany, 1986). This presentation marks the beginning of a new collaboration, as it is the first time Bohle’s work is being shown at Alzueta Gallery.

Playfulness and curiosity lie at the heart of Bohle’s practice, where a multifaceted approach bridges graffiti, graphic design, and pop-culture iconography. His work explores the tension between chaos and control, transforming spontaneous sketches and intuitive gestures into compositions that surprise, unsettle, and engage the viewer. Bohle’s visual language blends typography, everyday imagery, and unexpected juxtapositions, revealing a practice that is both playful and rigorously considered.

The exhibition presents a new body of work by Mark Bohle, consisting of 13 recent oil paintings in three different formats. The title, Lord Sandwich and the Bikini Roads, refers to terms that originated in specific contexts and later detached from them. This logic runs through the paintings, where situations are isolated and placed within open pictorial spaces, forming loose relations rather than a fixed narrative. Among the works there is a selection of oil on canvas pieces coated in resin, which imbues the surface with a luminous and glossy finish. Conceived as a whole, the exhibition marks a continuation of the artist’s practice.

Based in Barcelona, he runs the collaborative design studio N&MS with Nam Huynh, teaches at Elisava University, and has received numerous international awards, including the Prix Espoir at the Chaumont Graphic Design Biennial and the Grafia Tapani Aartomaa Prize at the Lahti Poster Triennial. Lord Sandwich and the Bikini Roads presents a body of work that celebrates experimentation, immediacy, and the power of the accidental in contemporary visual expression.
